The Series

The Space Between emerged slowly.

Not from a single insight or turning point, but from years of asking questions that never seemed to go away.

Questions about consciousness, meaning, perception, free will, creativity, the natural world, and the strange relationship between what we know and what remains mysterious.

For much of my life, I assumed those interests would eventually find a home somewhere else. In art. In work. In books. In conversation. And each offered something valuable. But none fully answered what I was actually searching for.

This project grew out of the realization:

The questions themselves were the work.

The episodes draw from science, philosophy, spirituality, psychology, and lived experience, but they are not attempts to arrive at final answers. They are explorations. An effort to approach complex ideas with curiosity, humility, and a willingness to remain in relationship with uncertainty.

My hope is that these essays offer a place for reflection in a world that often moves too quickly for it. Not only for specialists, academics, or experts, but for anyone who has ever sensed that there may be more beneath the surface of things.

The Space Between was created independently, with original music and sound design by Joel Cox. Joel's work for the BBC and The Guardian has drawn praise from The New Yorker, and his care, sensitivity, and talent helped give this series its atmosphere and emotional shape. I truly could not have made it without him.

About the Host

Lindsay Bodanza Dawley is the creator, writer, and host of The Space Between. She comes to the series not as someone claiming to have resolved its questions, but as a longtime student of them. She is drawn to the places where science, philosophy, spirituality, art, and lived experience meet and occasionally challenge one another.

Lindsay earned her BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and spent the next two decades as an executive producer in design-driven advertising production, working primarily between New York and Los Angeles. Her career taught her how to recognize the heart of an idea, ask precise questions, bring different perspectives into conversation, and shape something complex into a clear and affecting experience.

It also deepened her belief that how something is made matters. Thoughtful design, whether expressed through language, sound, typography, photography, architecture, or an everyday object, can change how we notice, feel, and understand. In a world often built around speed and haste, she values work created with patience, intention, and care.

That sensibility now shapes The Space Between. Lindsay approaches each episode with the instincts of both a producer and an artist. She researches widely, looks for connections across disciplines, and gives difficult ideas enough room to unfold without forcing them toward an easy conclusion.

Her curiosity has also been shaped by movement and change. She has made homes in Pennsylvania, Savannah, New York, Los Angeles, and parts of the South and Midwest. She has lived in places that move relentlessly and others that leave more room for stillness. She has traveled widely and often prefers to encounter the world directly, whether riding motorcycles, sailing across the Pacific, or spending time in landscapes that restore a sense of wonder.

Motherhood brought another kind of transformation. The birth of her daughter reordered what mattered most and changed the quality of her attention, including how she listens, the questions she asks, and how willing she is to remain with something before deciding what it means. Her marriage, family, and close relationships continue to ground her life and her work.

Lindsay is spiritual, though not affiliated with a single religious tradition. She remains curious, questioning, and wary of certainty. Her independent inquiry has moved through consciousness, comparative religion, physics, philosophy, psychology, and human development. She is less interested in finding one system that explains everything than in discovering more honest ways to engage with what remains unknown.

Alongside the podcast, Lindsay maintains a fine art practice that includes painting and sculpture.

What Lindsay brings to The Space Between is not a final set of answers. It is a practiced ability to follow an idea beneath its surface, hold different perspectives without rushing to resolve them, and create space for listeners to arrive at questions of their own.
